The Hall School
Refreshing a Brand Without Losing Its Character

01 | Project Overview
Refreshing a Brand Without Losing Its Character.
Founded in 1889, The Hall School is a leading independent boys' school in London, known for nurturing keen minds and generous hearts. With a strong reputation and well-established identity, the school wasn't looking for radical change, but rather a thoughtful evolution that would better reflect its confidence, character and future ambitions.
Quantock was tasked with refining the existing identity, strengthening what made the brand distinctive while bringing greater consistency, flexibility and impact across the school's communications.
The Challenge
The existing brand contained several valuable and recognisable elements, including the distinctive Hall Pink colour and Cross Pattée symbol. However, inconsistencies had emerged over time, particularly across sub-brands and school communications, resulting in a fragmented visual identity.
The challenge was to modernise the brand without alienating existing audiences. Any changes needed to feel natural and considered, preserving the school's heritage while creating a more contemporary and professional identity.

02 | The Straetgy
Refining What Made The Hall Distinctive.
We began by auditing the existing brand, identifying the elements that carried genuine value whilst highlighting areas that felt dated, inconsistent or underutilised. Through close collaboration with the client, we developed an approach focused on evolution rather than reinvention.
The Cross Pattée symbol was refined into a stronger, more versatile brand asset, while the typography was updated to improve legibility and create a more confident presence. We also introduced an expanded colour palette and a distinctive brand pattern, providing greater flexibility and visual interest across communications.
The refreshed identity was then applied to the school's magazine, templates and updated brand guidelines, ensuring consistency across every touchpoint.

03 | The Result
A More Confident Expression of the Brand
The result is a brand that feels more distinctive, cohesive and authentic. Existing equity has been preserved, while the introduction of new visual tools provides greater flexibility and consistency across future communications.
The broader, warmer palette allows Hall Pink to remain a hero colour without overwhelming the identity, while the new pattern and refined typography create a stronger visual presence.
Most importantly, the refreshed brand gives parents, pupils and staff a more consistent and professional experience that better reflects the quality and character of the school itself.
