Moulsford Prep
Branding a Transition to Co-Education

01 | Project Overview
Guiding a Historic School Through Change.
When Moulsford School began its transition to co-education, the leadership team recognised that was a significant moment in the school’s history: an opportunity to broaden its appeal while protecting the values, culture and reputation that families had trusted for generations.
Quantock was brought in as a strategic brand partner to help shape that next chapter. Our role was to develop a compelling brand narrative, clear messaging and a distinctive identity that would reassure existing families, engage new audiences and position Moulsford confidently for the future.
The Challenge
The move to co-education represented both an opportunity and a communications challenge. Moulsford had built a strong reputation as a leading boys' prep school, known for character development, outdoor learning, pastoral care and academic excellence. The risk was that families might view co-education as a departure from these strengths rather than an extension of them.
The school needed a brand and messaging framework that could preserve the trust, heritage and prestige already associated with Moulsford, while demonstrating that the same nurturing, adventurous and ambitious education would now be available to a wider community of pupils.

02 | The Straetgy
Defining a Future Built on Strong Foundations.
Our work began with research, stakeholder consultation and brand discovery. Through close collaboration with the School, we identified the qualities that families valued most: kindness, confidence, character development, outdoor adventure and a sense of belonging.
These insights formed the foundation of a new brand framework centred around the idea of growth through experience. We developed a suite of brand pillars, messaging hierarchies and creative concepts that positioned the move to co-education as a natural evolution of the school's ethos, rather than a change in direction.
The resulting platform introduced the "By Nature" proposition, celebrating the qualities that define both the school and its pupils. Rooted in the school's riverside setting and values-led culture, it provided a flexible and memorable framework for future communications, campaigns and admissions activity.
A key part of the solution was creating a more flexible and distinctive visual identity. By introducing a bespoke illustration style alongside an expanded colour palette, we reduced the brand's reliance on photography alone, giving the school greater creative freedom across marketing, admissions and digital communications. The approach allowed Moulsford to remain polished and premium whilst feeling more contemporary, vibrant and engaging for modern families.

03 | The Result
A Brand Ready for the Next Chapter.
The new identity gives Moulsford School a clearer and more distinctive position within the competitive independent school sector. It successfully balances tradition and progress, helping families understand that the school's move to co-education strengthens rather than replaces what has always made Moulsford special.
The introduction of illustration and an extended colour system has created a far more versatile brand toolkit. Whether appearing in prospectuses, digital campaigns, admissions materials or on-campus communications, the identity now delivers greater consistency whilst providing the flexibility needed to tell different stories without becoming visually repetitive.
Most importantly, the brand now reflects the reality of the school itself: warm, ambitious, adventurous and inclusive. It feels contemporary without chasing trends, premium without feeling exclusive, and provides Moulsford with a platform capable of supporting the school's next stage of growth and evolution.
