Rethinking Organic for a Modern Market

01 | Project Overview
Rethinking Organic for a Modern Market.
For more than 40 years, Ethical Food Company has supplied high-quality organic produce to major UK retailers and delivery services, building its reputation on transparency, responsible sourcing and long-term grower relationships. Working with over 1,200 growers and farmers across 17 countries, the business has become a trusted partner within the organic produce sector.
Our relationship began with a tender presentation for a major supermarket, where the business needed to communicate its expertise and professionalism more effectively. Following a successful outcome, we were tasked with refreshing the wider brand and developing a modern identity that better reflected the scale, credibility and experience behind the business.
The Challenge
Like many organic brands, Ethical Food Company faced the challenge of standing out in a crowded market where visual identities often rely on predictable green palettes and familiar category conventions. The business wanted to modernise perceptions while retaining the trust and authenticity it had spent decades building.
The challenge was to create a more distinctive and professional brand without changing the existing logo. At the same time, the new identity needed to communicate both the company's 40-year heritage and its forward-thinking approach to sourcing, supply and customer relationships.

02 | The Straetgy
Building a Brand Beyond Category Conventions.
Our work began with a brand audit and strategic review, helping to define how the business should position itself for future growth. This led to the development of a refreshed brand framework, including messaging, tone of voice guidance, positioning statements and customer-focused user journeys that would shape both the brand and website experience.
Visually, we moved away from the stereotypical organic aesthetic by introducing a distinctive colour palette centred around rich pink and purple tones, supported by new typography, iconography and a broader visual language. The result feels contemporary and confident while remaining authentic to the sector.
Alongside the brand refresh, we designed and developed a new website, created presentation and tender decks, produced brand guidelines and commissioned a bespoke photography shoot. Creating an exclusive image library helped humanise the business, showcase the people behind the produce and provide a stronger alternative to generic stock photography.

03 | The Result
A Stronger Brand for Future Growth.
The refreshed identity positions Ethical Food Company as an experienced and trusted leader within the organic produce sector. The new visual language helps differentiate the brand while maintaining the credibility and professionalism required to engage major retailers and commercial partners.
The website, presentations and supporting brand assets now work together as a cohesive system, creating a more consistent experience across every touchpoint. Complex information has been simplified through thoughtful design, infographics and visual storytelling, helping audiences engage with the business more easily.
Most importantly, the project demonstrates how strategic design can reshape perceptions. What began with a tender presentation evolved into a complete brand transformation, helping Ethical Food Company secure new opportunities, strengthen its market presence and launch its refreshed identity across key customer channels, including Ocado.
